The Company

Baker & Associates, Energy Consultants

The firm offers niche-market consulting services and business intelligence related to Mexico's oil and gas, power and chemical industries. The firm's beginnings may be traced back to consulting assignments that were carried out by George Baker in the late 1970s in Mexico, at the height of the Oil Boom in Mexico. From 1989-1996 the firm was located in the San Francisco area. In late 1996 the firm moved to Houston's Galleria Area, and is located outside the Loop, near the intersection of San Felipe and St. James Place (1770 St. James, Ste 406, Houston, TX 77056-3405).
Today, the firm operates as a research center, consulting firm and newsletter publisher.

Research center

Beginning in 1992, when we were retained by the U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO), we have devoted staff resources to building databases on the oil and gas, chemical and electric power markets and related infrastructure. We have an "E-Series" special collection of conference papers, press clippings and other documents organized in some 700 hanging files. Our corporate library on the contemporary energy history and policy environment in Mexico, including Pemex, CFE, CRE, and Mexican politics is probably unmatched in Mexico or the United States.

We have developed an extensive upstream databases on Pemex's oil and gas reserves, by basin and field, using both Access and FileMaker software. We also have a database in Excel on the CFE's infrastructure. Also in Excel we have developed a software product, KWMex, which permits users to forecast CFE power charges for an existing or hypothetical plant. We have prepared an Energy Market Assessment Series with market studies of natural gas, LNP and electric power.

Consulting services

The firm offers consulting services for organizations seeking data, business and policy intelligence about operating conditions and market and policy outlooks in Mexico.

Newsletter publisher

The firm's newsletter service, Mexico Energy Intelligence™ (MEI), was established in 1994. It provides companies and government organizations with analysis of market and policy conditions taking into account trends and cycles in Mexican politics and history. MEI alerts subscribers of policy, market and institutional developments affecting Mexico's energy and chemical sectors. We advise subscribers of pertinent Internet traffic, new publications as well as of upcoming industry or academic meetings relating to the energy sector.
