George Baker
George Baker is Managing Principal of Baker & Associates, Energy Consultants (BAEC), founded in 1990 and now based in Houston. He is publisher of Mexico Energy Intelligence® (MEI) and chief architect for the company’s database and software development projects.
Career highlights. In his early career, Baker was an academic specialist in Mexican history and politics. In 1973-74, he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the National University (UNAM) in Mexico City. Later, in Los Angeles, he was a Latin American analyst with Lundberg Survey, on the staff of its bilingual publication Energy Détente. In 1990, he established Baker & Associates, based in Berkeley, California. In 1994, he founded Mexico Energy Intelligence® as an industry news service. In 1996, he moved his offices to Houston’s Galleria area.
Publications. Baker is the author of Mexico’s Petroleum Sector (PennWell, 1984) and numerous articles in the Oil & Gas Journal and other publications. His first article on Mexico in the OGJ appeared in June 1981.
Education. Trained in philosophy and the social sciences, Baker holds a Ph.D. in history from Duke University.
